Taos Town Council
About Nathaniel Evans
My name is Nathaniel Evans, and I am a homegrown Taoseño. I was born in a school bus in Talpa and have taught middle school math and science in Taos for the past sixteen years. My wife and I own a home in Cruz Alta here in Taos.
I am honored to have served as your Town Councilmember since 2016, and I’m eager to continue being your champion as we bring Taos into the next decade.
Together we can protect local jobs and encourage new business, increase access to affordable housing, and work together to keep Taoseños–especially our young people–here in Taos.

Leadership - Vision - Opportunity
Youth Opportunity
My life’s work is focused on taking care of Taos’ youth, and creating opportunities for young people to succeed. As a Councilmember, I facilitated the donation of 10 computers to the Youth and Family Center so students can have access to the internet, and worked to ensure that 1,100 free meals were served during the summer. I also helped to secure over $2.25 million in state and federal grants to support the Center for years to come.
Liveable, Welcoming Downtown
I am committed to helping create a walkable and bikeable downtown, where visitors are welcome and locals feel at home. I worked as leader with the Strong at Heart project, and continue working with Main Street Taos to follow through on Taoseños vision to revitalize our beautiful downtown.
Affordable Housing
We must continue developing affordable housing options that keep families together in our community. I supported the creation of a 76-unit affordable housing project, and worked to donate the Chamisa Verde lots to Habitat for Humanity so they can provide affordable homes. We must continue working to create affordable housing options so that we can protect locals while inviting visitors.
After going away for college, I was lucky enough to find a job in Taos that allowed me to return home and thrive here with my family. That should not be a question of luck–every Taoseño deserves the same opportunity. We need to create a more diverse and resilient local economy that isn’t only dependent on tourism. This is achievable by investing in projects like Taos HIVE and collaborating with local nonprofits who are already doing this work.
Public Health & Safety
I will continue to make health and safety a priority in our community. To ensure safe and secure access to clean water, I voted to approve over $3.5 million dollars in sewer and water infrastructure improvements. I worked with the Taos Police Department to get a $4.00 an hour raise, and have worked to support our fire department, who now provide outstanding 24-7 service to keep our community safe.
Financial Transparency & Accountability
I am working to protect your money! Since I became chair of the audit committee, the Town received its first clean audit in over twenty years. I formed and chaired the financial oversight committee, which gives recommendations to the Town on large, multi-year investments such as improved infrastructure or the construction of new buildings.
